Casting Announced for "The Nether" by Jennifer Haley

We are thrilled to announce casting for our spring production of Jennifer Haley's "The Nether." Artistic Director Jaimelyn Gray will direct the play, which is the winner of the 2011 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize for playwriting, and was also nominated for an Olivier Award for Best New Play and won an Ovation Award for Playwriting for an Original Play. The play received its world premiere at the Kirk Douglas Theatre in California in March 2013, after being first developed at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center as part of the 2011 National Playwrights Conference.

Much like an episode of the hit series “Black Mirror” and one of the most talked about new plays in recent years, popular female playwright Jennifer Haley blurs reality into a virtual realm known as The Nether. This new form of the internet allows anyone to access a vast network of virtual reality realms. Users may log in, choose an identity, and indulge any desire. Detective Morris interrogates members of a realm known as The Hideaway, digging into the emotional consequences of its players entertaining the darkest of wants. The Nether is both twisting crime drama and haunting sci-fi thriller. The play is for mature audiences only as it deals with pedophilia, sexual violence, suicide, and other very adult themes.

The production will feature returning Constructivists Guest Artists Robert W.C. Kennedy as Sims/Papa, Jaime Jastrab as Doyle, and Matthew Scales as Woodnut, and are joined by new Guest Artists Maya Danks as Morris, and Rebekah Farr as Iris.
